Québec at the Dawn of the New Millennium: Between Tradition and Modernity
Le Québec à l'aube du nouveau millénaire: entre tradition et modernité
International Colloquium Organized and Hosted by the Department of Foreign Languages
and Literatures
March 2-3, 2007
Nearly fifty years have passed since the Quiet Revolution and, within this short period,
Québec has experienced rapid transformations in all areas. This interdisciplinary
colloquium will enable its participants to reflect upon the changes which have affected
Québec society in the recent past. Topics will include: politics, the economy, status
of the French language, cultural identity, social groups, education, women, religion,
the media, cultural production (literature, cinema, art, music, songs), relations
with the rest of Canada, and international relations. Some sessions will be of special
interest to teachers who may receive Professional Development Credits. The registration
fee includes a packet of documents on Québec. A volume of Colloquium proceedings is
being planned.
Keynote Address:
Michel Venne

Michel Venne is Director and Co-founder of the Institut du Nouveau Monde in Montreal,
