Language Department to Host Foreign Language Film Festival

Please join the Department of World Languages for a Foreign Language Film Festival!

From April 6-14, 3:30-5 pm each day (M-F), special guest presentations and animated films from around the world will be shown, with presentations and commentary from UNT professors. All films are FREE and there will be complimentary refreshments served at each screening.

From 4/6-4/8, presentations and films will be shown in LANG 107 and from 4/8-4/14, screenings will be held in LANG 107A

4/6 "Red, White, and Blue Smurfs"- Presented by Frances Novier-Baldwin

4/7 "World of Animation"-Presented by Jeanne Stern
Join this Internationally Recognized Texas artist and animator as she shares her behind-the-scenes experiences creating puppetry and animation for films

4/8 "Felidae"- 1994 (Germany) hosted by Dr. Weber
This R-rated adult animated film delves into the grisly feline murders being committed in the new neighborhood of domestic house cat Francis. Michael Schaak directs this neo-noir horror-thriller.

4/9 "Il Signore Rossi al mare" 1964 and "Il Signor Rossie compra
l'automobile" 1966 (Italy) hosted by Dr. De Santis
Mr. Rossi, the most famous Bruno Bozzetto character, is the sweet and sour personification of the average Italian man living at the time of an unprecedented economic boom in the 1960's and beginning to notice the first drawbacks of progress.
"La Bruxa (The Witch)"- 2010 (Spain) hosted by Dr. Marrero
Written and directed by the Spaniard Pedro Solis Garcia this film was awarded the Goya Prize in 2011 for best short animation film.
"Destino (Destiny)"- 2003 (Spain) hosted by Dr. Beckman
The original collaboration between Walt Disney and Spanish Surrealist Salvador Dali, with music by Mexican songwriter Armando Dominguez.

4/10 "哪吒闹海 (Nezha Conquers the Dragon King)"- 1979 (China)
hosted by Prof. Bei Chen
An adaptation of Chinese mythology and the first Chinese-language animated film to be screened at the Cannes film festival.

4/13 "風立ちぬ (The Wind Rises)"- 2013 (Japan) hosted by Dr.
Furuya
A lifelong love of flight inspires Japanese aviation engineer Jiro Horikoshi, whose storied career includes the creation of the A-6M WWII fighter plane.

4/14 " Ежик в тумане (Hedgehog in the Fog)" 1975 and
"Сказка сказок (Tale of Tales)" 1978- (Russia) hosted
by Dr. Filosofova
Works by the Russian animator Yuri Norstein, who has created a special genere of poetic animated cartoons of pure lyricism developed through a sequence of visual images.
